The wife of a British Member of Parliament has gone on trial accused of stealing his mistress's kitten during the breakdown of their marriage.
Christine Hemming, wife of Liberal Democrat MP John Hemming, was spotted on camera as she entered the home of love rival Emily Cox and left just minutes later, carrying the kitten, Beauty, under her arm.
The jury were told that there was a "love triangle" arrangement in which both women knew that the MP divided his time between them. However, on arrest Mrs Hemming claimed that she and her husband had separated two days before the alleged burglary.
She initially admitted stealing the kitten, but at the trial she insisted that she didn't remember doing so. When she realised what she had done she tried to return the kitten by slotting her underneath a fence near Ms. Cox's home.
However, despite a number of searches and appeals, Beauty has never been seen since, leaving her brother Twinkle pining for her.
