If you notice from some of our many blogs there is a massive issue about the transmission of viruses from animals to humans and how we must be sensible about this. The Schmallenburg virus is the latest to hit the UK from Europe in which sheep are infected possibly by ticks and then produce lambs with multiple deformities. The open question is - can this virus can affect humans and the impact on expectant mothers and what is the impact on live births?
We already know that a virus that affects cats can affect pregnant mothers ( again see an earlier blog) but the recipe for a natural disaster is there and the vet community needs to be at the forefront and not allow Governments to over-react!
