Get your doctor to prescribe for the cat!

A case early last year in which a doctor in Banbury, Oxfordshire, UK prescribed insulin and chemotherapy drugs for her sister's cat was thought to be unusual occurrence. However subsequent investigations have identified a number of people who have asked their GP for drugs for cats as they may be cheaper than the alternative from the vet. This is strictly not allowed under the UK rules however the availability of free drugs on prescription has made many people to be quite cavalier about drugs and have little knowledge of the cost. They are often shocked when the vet tells them the price of the drugs and then ask their own doctor or friends if they can have these drugs on the National Health Service!
