Nap-Catcher rather than Rat-Catcher... Is Larry a lazy cat?

No. 10 spin doctors yesterday rushed to the defense of Larry after the new Government rat catcher fell victim to an anonymous whispering.

Insiders have complained that Larry the four-year-old tabby has failed to deliver on a pledge to tackle Whitehall’s vermin problem. Larry is the latest in a long line of potential employees to suffer the pain of anonymous briefing.

One source told a Sunday newspaper that Larry had done little but sleep since his arrival from Battersea Cats and Dogs home 10 days ago, stirring occasionally to scratch passing officials. Larry had even left hair on the Prime Minister’s suits, the anonymous briefer complained.

"He has shown no interest in the many mice in Downing Street," a source told the Independent on Sunday. "There is a distinct lack of killer instinct."

A senior Downing Street spokesman leapt to defend the cat from the anonymous slurs, pointing out that it was far too soon to expect the rat catcher in chief to have fulfilled his brief.

In fact, Larry has only just begun to explore his new home at No 10, and will not be allowed outside the building, where the rats were seen, to the alarm of television news crews, for more than a week in case he takes flight and runs away.

He added: “Larry is a very popular member of staff. It’s true that he slept for his first two days at Downing Street, but he had been through quite an ordeal moving into a new home.

“Like all cats, he does still sleep a bit, but he is certainly a lot perkier than he was when he arrived."

Is Larry really Jo from a south London council estate?

Larry the ex stray cat has been living it up in downing street, however , Larry shouldn’t get to comfy on the sofa at downing St because rumour has it, he actually belongs to Cat lover Margaret Sutcliffe.

Margaret claims she adopted Larry, or Jo as she called him, as a stray cat two years ago. She went on to explain how he had lived happily with her in Bermondsey, cuddled up in her living room until he vanished last October.

The next time she saw him ‘nearly died’ with shock. There was her Jo on TV and in the newspapers the new employee of the Prime Minister, labelled to tackle to rat problem on Downing St.

Thanks to his tabby markings and distinctive eyes Margaret has no doubt that Larry is her cat.

A Facebook group was set up in order to raise awareness of this situation and has already gained 500 fans, and some even sent letters to the Prime Minister demanding Larry’s return to his home.

Have your say? Do you think Larry should stay under the wing of the Prime Minister or disregard his duty as ‘rat catcher’ and return to his loving home!

Larry will bring law and order to No 10

HE looks cuddly enough, but meet the “bruiser” who has been brought in to help clean up politics – or at least Downing Street.

Larry has already proved he is up to scratch by getting his claws into ITV’s Lucy Manning who was amongst reporters and photographers.

His brief is to restore law and order after rodents were seen scuttling outside the Prime Minister’s official residence.

David Cameron said:

“I’m delighted to welcome Larry to his new home.”

And with that, Larry immediately proved he was up to scratch by taking a swipe at a TV reporter.

Mr Cameron insisted Larry will make a “great addition” to the government team and “charm” dignitaries from around the world.

Larry is the first Downing Street cat since stalwart ratter Humphrey retired in 1997!

Larry, it seems, is more suited to life at the sharp end.
