Aberdeen man admits torturing and drowning 19 cats

Anthony Appolonia, Aberdeen, answered newspaper advertisements seeking shelter for cats, gave all the right answers, leading the owners to believe he would give their pets a loving home.

Within days of adopting a pet however, he tortured the animal before drowning it in his bathtub, and went back to the newspapers to answer more ads, he admitted in Superior Court in Freehold. The man pleaded guilty to killing 19 cats between October and December 2008.

He told the court he didn't use any weapons to kill the felines.
``You broke bones with your hands?'' the judge asked. “You held cats under the water until they could no longer breathe?” Appolonia responded affirmatively to both inquiries but he didn't explain why. Appolonia faces four years imprisonment for the crimes but may be eligible for parole shortly after being sentenced.
