My 1,200-mile trip to rescue a cat on a hot tin tile roof

BIG-hearted cat lover Wendy Wilson leapt into action after a stray cat she looked out for was stuck on a roof for weeks without food or water.

However she faced one problem - the stray cat was across the English Channel 1,200 miles away.

Wendy, 65, had grown fond of tortoiseshell Sandy while living for 16 weeks a year at her holiday home in Cruzy, Herault, in France’s sunny deep south.

Back home in Britain she phoned her French neighbour to ask how things were and was alarmed to hear Sandy had disappeared.

The retired mum-of-two said: “I made inquiries and found the poor thing was stuck in the heat for three weeks. I was so worried I decided to go to France.”

She flew from Stansted to Carcassonne then spent £400 for transport and red tape to bring Sandy to Britain.

Wendy, who donated the cat to a grateful elderly neighbour in Woodbridge, Suffolk, said: “Sandy has a pampered life now. Some of my French neighbours were baffled.”
