Man hangs himself after his cat goes missing... only for pet to return a fortnight later

A man hanged himself after his cat went missing only for it to return two weeks later, an inquest heard.

Alan Jordan, 58, took his own life three weeks after the pet vanished from his home in Tredworth, Gloucester.

But the dishevelled animal was found close to his home shortly after he died, the coroner was told.

Mr Jordan, a bachelor who had been made redundant three years before he died, had suffered from depression.

His GP Dr Jonathan Unwin told the inquest in Cheltenham that his cat going missing worsened his condition.

'His cousin Christine Hyam came to see me after a suicide attempt on March 12 and I saw him with her,' said Dr Unwin.

'He was severely depressed - a problem which had come to a head three weeks before when he lost his cat.

  1. May he rest in peace, i hope the cat can find an owner just as loving as he was.
