BROKEN teeth, a black eye, a dislocated tail and bruising; these are just some of the injuries which were inflicted on this abandoned cat.

Daisy, a tabby cat with a white tummy, was dumped outside Teckels animal rescue centre in Whitminster and found at around 10am on Tuesday.

Now Gloucestershire Police are making an urgent appeal to the public for information as they investigate this incident of animal cruelty.

Daisy was taken to a vet and is receiving treatment for a number of injuries, both external and internal.

Officers believe the cat was intentionally harmed and are eager to see the offenders brought to justice.

Inspector Tony Jones from the area's policing team, said: "This was a truly hideous crime and it's hard to comprehend why someone would want to do such a terrible thing.

"We are urging anyone who was in the area yesterday morning that may have seen the cat being left by the offender to contact us on 0845 090 1234 quoting incident number 483 of April 15. Don't forget you can also stay anonymous but still help us by reporting information via the Crimestoppers website or by calling 0800 555 111."

Gloucestershire Police are working with the RSPCA on the investigation.

Eccleshill man let his dog cause horrific injuries to pet cat

Bradford Magistrates court has heard of a serious case of animal cruelty as Ryan Lambert aged 23 failed to keep his dog under control when attacking a neighbour’s cat, causing critical injuries.

Ryan was found guilty of failing to keep the greyhound lurcher-type dog under control.

The dog was seen dragging the cat like a doll along a nearby alleyway by a neighbour in September last year, Bradford magistrates were told yesterday.

Ryan got hold of his animal, took the cat out of its mouth and dragged the dog away, magistrates were told.

When he returned he placed the cat in the corner of the alleyway and said it would be all right, the court heard.

Dennis Schulman, prosecuting on behalf of Bradford Council, said the cat’s belly was bleeding and one of its hind legs hung behind it.

Mr Cleary called to another neighbour, whom he believed owned the cat, and then contacted a vet, who put the animal down due to the severity of its injuries, the court heard.

Mr Cleary later realised the dog was owned by a man who kept dogs in cages at his house, Mr Schulman said.

The matter was brought to the attention of the Council’s dog warden manager Terry Singh in November, when a meeting was held to discuss residents’ concerns over cats being attacked by dogs in the area.

Lambert, who had admitted his dog had caused the cat’s injuries, told Mr Singh his animals were used for rabbiting and were generally obedient, coming back to him when called.

He said the cat had come into his garden while he was bathing the dog’s feet and had been grabbed as it jumped over the garden wall.

Lambert was found guilty of two offences under the Animal Welfare Act.

Magistrates adjourned the case for sentencing on April 4.

Lib Dem jailed for killing family cat

A probable Lib Dem MP who speaks out on crime and policing was behind bars today after he was jailed for battering the family cat to death – with a WALKING STICK.

Mike Dixon, 53, prospective parliamentary candidate for Birmingham Northfield was jailed after killing black and white cat Tipsy, with repeated blows to the cats head with a walking stick.

He ”lost his temper” and clubbed the family feline to death at the family home in Kidderminster, Worcs., after the pet scratched one of his grandchildren.

In the same month Dixon gained 6,550 votes (15.66 per cent) when he stood as a Lib Dem candidate in the General Election.

Dixon admitted causing unnecessary suffering to a cat contrary to the Animal Welfare Act 2006 at Kidderminster Magistrates Court on Thursday and was jailed for 16 weeks.

Brian McCluskie, chairman of the bench, told Dixon: ”This was a prolonged and awful attack on an animal, which was a result of your inability to keep your temper.

”That resulted in the family pet being bludgeoned to death. The family pet did not die quickly.

”You ignored pleas of your family and you caused horrific suffering.”

The court heard the married father-of-two killed Tipsy – which they had kept for five years – at their home, after it scratched one of his grandchildren on May 14 last year.
