Thousands raised for cat protection

Cat lovers had a purr-fect afternoon when they helped raise £3,200 for the local branch of a national charity during a spring fair held earlier this month.

The Reading East, Wokingham and Bracknell branch of Cats Protection held the event at Carnation Hall in Chavey Down Road, Winkfield, on Saturday, March 12.

Bric-a-brac, jewellery, homemade cakes and cat collectables were all on sale at the event, while a raffle and tombola was also held.

The event also saw several enquiries made about some of the cats under the care of the welfare charity, with three possibly being found new homes.

Lynne Pothecary, publicity officer for the local Cats Protection, said:

“We are very pleased that so many of our supporters came along, and the day was so successful, but we would still welcome new helpers and volunteers.

“We made just over £3,200 on the day, which was an increase on last year’s takings, so that is great news.

“We have also had several enquires as a result of some of the cats that were at the fair.”
