ANOTHER sickening act of animal cruelty has emerged in St Helens just a fortnight after the story of the appalling crossbow attack on Spike the cat was broadcast around the world.
Wendy Morris was frantic when her eight-year-old pet cat, Louis, went missing and searched for six days until he returned – with a shattered leg.
Vets have since revealed the cat had been blasted with an air gun, with X-rays showing the pellet lodged in the cat’s broken leg.
Wendy, who lives in Parr, said: “At first, we thought he’d been run over. He couldn’t walk on his leg and when he sat, it pointed the wrong way.
“We took him to the vet on Saturday and they told us he’d been shot. His leg is fractured in three places and the breaks are where his main nerves are.”
Vets who examined Louis found his leg had broken into four pieces, and the pellet embedded in it was larger than normal.
He had been shot with a 22-calibre air gun, which is more powerful and causes more damage.
