Stray Dogs Slaughter Cat

A home surveillance video has caught a pack of dogs killing a pregnant cat.

The owner, Matt Eller, found the cat dead this morning on the sidewalk in front of his home.

Eller say’s the attack happened around midnight on the previous day. He heard some noise, but thought it was the neighbor's dogs, but it was really his own cat being attacked.

It was a pack of four black stray dogs that attacked the cat.

Eller says, since the cat was pregnant, it was harder for her to move very fast. Unfortunately one of the four dogs did get a hold of her.

"It's just scary because I have a kid, a 3-year-old, and it could have been him, and we could be in a lot worse situation right now. They were blood thirsty dogs, a pack of dogs, and they could easily take out a kid," said Eller.

We contacted animal control and they tell us they get at least 200 complaints a week about stray animals in that particular area.

Since they are short-handed right now, they are not able to patrol the neighborhood for strays the way they'd like too.

Thugs shoot cat with air rifle

THE RSPCA are appealing after a cat was left with a hole in her hip bone after thugs shot the feline with an air rifle in Mersea earlier this month.

Family pet Poppy came limping home to Sea View Avenue, West Mersea, on Sunday, 6 March at about 2.30pm.

“We saw some blood and realised she was hurt, and took her to the emergency vet,” said her owner Marcia O’Brien.

The vet discovered that a pellet from an air rifle had gone through Poppy’s hip and left a hole. It cannot be pinned because of the location, so she is having to rest and be stopped from jumping and walking until the beginning of April in the hope that the bone will knit together.

Poppy is a white cat with tortoise shell stepping stones on her back and tail.

“We are hoping someone witnessed this, and will be able to help by coming forward as we really need to find out who was behind this senseless attack,” said RSPCA chief inspector Dawn Avery.

“It will help Poppy’s owners find some peace of mind, because they are worried that if this person is not caught, they will shoot another pet, or hurt Poppy again.

Man slits cat’s throat

A south suburban man, after discovering his brother was sleeping with his fiancee, reacted by slitting the throat of his brother’s cat.

Sean Mulcahy, 31, of Homer Glen, was sentenced Wednesday to 30 months probation and 150 hours of community service for killing the cat after he discovered the sexual tryst.

Mulcahy pleaded guilty to a felony charge of aggravated animal cruelty in Will County stemming from the Aug. 5 incident.

Prosecutors, who had sought a 180-day jail term for Mulcahy, said he slit his brother’s cat’s throat as revenge for the affair.

Chuck Pelkie, a spokesman for the Will County State’s Attorney’s office, said Mulcahy was “enraged and intoxicated” when he committed the crime in the driveway of the home in Homer Glen that he was sharing at the time with his brother, Ryan Mulcahy.

Ryan Mulcahy reportedly found a pool of blood in the driveway and discovered his cat across the street in a ditch, Pelkie said.

Judge Edward Burmila set as conditions of Sean Mulcahy’s probation no alcohol, no pets and continued psychological treatment, Pelkie said.

Prosecutors had sought jail time based on a prior history that includes a 2002 conviction for criminal damage to property, and a 2009 conviction for reckless driving, Pelkie said. “They were concerned that it showed a violent tendency,” Pelkie said.

Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow wrote the law that raised animal cruelty from a misdemeanor to a felony, Pelkie noted, adding, “He is serious about prosecuting these cases.”
